Moëres (Northern)

Moëres ( De Moeren in Dutch, litt. The Marshes) are a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais. On the other side of the border is the old Belgian commune same name: De Moeren.
Its inhabitants is Morins.
Etymology
To pronounce “the moires”, although the Flemish origin De plural Moeren of De Moer would rather encourage to pronounce the moures (final N of Moeren deciding little or not in Flemish).
Geography
Located in the Blootland near the Belgian border , in a zone of Polder S. It acts of the point low of the French territory: less 4 meters below the Sea level.
Les Moëres is located at 4 km of the has 16, to 17 km of Dunkirk, to 5 km of Hondschoote, to 4 km of Ghyvelde and to 8 km of Bray-Dunes.
History
In withdrawal of the dune solid mass, the natural depression of Moëres profits from the system of drainage works only at the 17th century. At the time, Moëres resemble a Lagune. For a part, the Abbaye of the Dunes exerts there a right of fishing, while the remainder is only one vast pestilential Marécage, favourable with the endemic diseases. The Archduke S Albert and Isabelle, eager to exploit these grounds and to make them livable call upon Wenceslas Cobergher, which undertakes in 1619 the draining of Small and Large Moëre. 23 windmills exondent the water which is rejected without end in the Ringsloot, a ditch-dam girdling the Marais. A network of Channels, drains, of water gang S supplements the device of empoldering.
