Moëres

Moëres (in Dutch De Moeren ) were a marshy area in the area of Dunkirk, with horse on the current Franco-Belgian border.

Work of draining of this area was carried out between 1617 and 1627 by Wenceslas Cobergher at the request of the Archdukes Albert and Isabelle.

With the Peace of Utrecht, Moëres were divided between the France and the Netherlands become Austrian then.

Today, two communes divide the territory and the name of these marshes, Moëres in France and Furnes with its village Moëres in Belgium.
