Mladá Boleslav

Mladá Boleslav is a Ville of the Czech Republic located in the area of Bohemia Centrale, to approximately 50 km in the North-East of Prague, on left bank of the river Jizera and populated 43  406 inhabitants (in 2003).

History

The city was founded at the 10th century by Boleslav II, duke of Bohemia of 967 with 999, around a castle quickly called “Mladá Boleslav” (either “Young Boleslav”) to distinguish it from another castle of this name located near Prague (famous later “Stará Boleslav”, or “Old Boleslav”, and which is today integral part of the town of Brandýs nad Labem-Stará Boleslav).

16th century at the 19th century, the city sheltered an important Jewish community , which was worth the nickname of “Jerusalem to him on Jezira”.

Sport

The city shelters FK Mladá Boleslav, club of Football created in 1902, whose fact of glory is the qualification out of cut of Europe obtained vis-a-vis the Olympique of Marseilles in 2006.

The athlete Jan Zelezny was also born in this city.

Industry

  • Seat of Škoda Car, automobile manufacturer. The mark was founded in 1895 pennies the name “Laurin & Klement” before taking the current name during its fusion in 1925 with the manufacturer of Škoda machine tools (created in 1859).
