Miyajima
Miyajima (宮島町; - chô) is a city located on the island of Itsukushima (厳島, sometimes itself called island of Miyajima), in the Inland sea of Seto (Setonaikai), Préfecture of Hiroshima, Région of Chūgoku, in the west of the Japan.
Geography
The town of Miyajima is populated of 2018 inhabitants (2003). The entire surface of the island east of 30,39 km ². The access is done by ferry; the terminal of Miyajimaguchi is directly served since the center of Hiroshima by a tram line and the line JR Sanyo. Direct links by ferry are also made since the port of Hiroshima.
A crowned island
The island of Itsukushima is considered, in the religion shintoïste, like a crowned island. There is thus neither maternity nor cemetery on the island, because this prohibited statute that one is born to with it or that one dies there. In the same way, it is interdict to cut down trees there. The island is thus covered with a relatively luxuriant forest.Many temples and sanctuaries are built on the island.
- the main thing of them is the Temple of Itsukushima (厳島神社), with its famous Torii floating (大鳥居). It is one of the “the Three sights most famous of Japan” (with Amanohashidate and Matsushima). The temple of Itsukushima is registered on the Liste of the world heritage of UNESCO since 1996.
- the temple of Senjokaku (千畳閣) includes/understands a pagoda of five stages built in 1407.
- the Daigan-ji , dedicated to the god of the music, goes back to 1201.
The park of Momijidani (紅葉谷公園), above the city, consists of a thick maple forest.
Many ways and paths furrow the island. A cable car makes it possible to reach without effort the culminating point of the island, the mount Misen (弥山, Misen San ), of an altitude of 530 meters.

- April 15th and November 15th: rite of walk on fire by the monks of the island
- June 16th: Kangensai (nautical festival)
- August 14th: pyrotechnical festival
- December 31st: Chinkasai (festival of fire)
