Mitsuhide Akechi

Mitsuhide Akechi (, Akechi Mitsuhide ) (1526 - July 4th 1582), called Jubei , was a Samurai born in the Province from Mino (currently the Préfecture of Gifu) during the Period Sengoku from the history from the Japan. It was a general with the service of the daimyō Nobunaga Oda, although it then betrayed it and ammené to make the Seppuku, but also a cultivated man, a large amateur of the ceremony of the and a poet at his hours.

Life

It enters to the service of Nobunaga in 1566, under the name of Koretō, after the conquest of its native province by this one and receives Sakamoto (a stronghold of 100.000 koku in the Province of Omi) in 1571. Even if it is rare that Nobunaga puts much confidence in its vassal, it relies full on Shibata Katsuie, Hideyoshi Hashiba and Akechi Mitsuhide. After this last was received Sakamoto, it deals with pacifying the area of Tamba by vaincquant several clans of which the Tango and Isshiki.

After having been a time governor of Hyūga, it conquers the Province of Tamba, today Kyōto, for the account of Nobunaga, which makes it possible this one to reach the emperor.

In 1579, it takes the Château of Yakami to Hideharu Hatano by making him promises of peace. The goal of Mitsuhide is reached, but Nobunaga made carry out Hideharu. Does not like this obviously the Hatano clan, and little time after a group of vassal of Hideharu assassinates the mother of Mitsuhide Akechi. Mitsuhide makes weigh on Nobunaga the responsibility for died for his/her mother, and is avenged by the attack for the temple Honnô-ji the June 21st 1582. To avoid being taken, Nobunaga kills his/her Nobutada son, then commits suicide.

It then takes the title of general-in-chief of the armies, but Hideyoshi Toyotomi and Ieyasu Tokugawa run to avenge Nobunaga. Hideyoshi arrives the first, and attacks Mitsuhide with the Bataille of Yamazaki the July 2nd. He flees and manages to survive during two days moreover, but finally is killed (the rumor wants that he was killed by a peasant armed with a lance of bamboo but it is also told that he succeeded in fleeing to finish his life in moniale under the name of Tenkai).

This very short reign is worth to him the nickname of Jūsan Kūbo , “the thirteen days shôgun”.

His/her third daughter, Tama, wife of Tadaoki Hosokawa, are famous to be themselves converted with Christianity under the name of Gracia Hosokawa.
