Mitford sisters

The six sisters Mitford are the girls of David Mitford (future Lord Redesdale) and Sydney Bowles married the February 6th 1904.

  • the second of the girls, Pamela (1907 - 1994) is a amatrice of animals which it defended with strength. It carried out a life much more peaceful than her other sisters. Its only extravagance was to marry in black.

  • Comes then Diana (1910 - 2003) which Maria in first wedding with a Guiness son and in second wedding with Oswald Mosley, fascistic militant British.   • Unity (1914 - 1948), the fourth of the sisters is one of most known. Adoring the military discipline, it engages in the Nazi party. She did not support the relation that it maintained with Eva Braun and tried to commit suicide. She then kept a ball in the head which caused its death later a few years.

  • Jessica (1917 - 1996), engaged with the Communist party then joined the Spain to take part in the fight of the republican against the forces of Franco. It left then with her husband Esmond Romilly to the the United States where it defended the cause of the Blacks. She wrote later a Best-seller The American Way off Death denouncing the practices of the undertaking. This work enabled him to become a journalist of investigation for the American newspapers.

  • Deborah (1920 -), the last of the family, married in 1941 Lord Andrew Cavendish and became duchess of Devonshire.
