The Mission of the United Nations in Sudan ( WASHOUT ) was created by the resolution 1590 presented by the the United States and adopted unanimously by the Safety advice of the United Nations the March 24th 2005.

Description of the mission

The purpose of it is “to support the application of the North-South peace agreement” to the Southern Sudan, signed the January 9th 2005 with Nairobi between the government of the Sudan and the Movement of the popular Army of release of Sudan (SPLM/A) of John Garang.

It will be made up to the maximum of 10  000 soldiers and of maximum 715 members of the civil police force.

Its initial mandate is 6 months.
