Mission impossible
Mission impossible ( Mission: Impossible ) is a American Televised series in 171 50 minutes episodes, created by Bruce Geller and diffused between the September 17th 1966 and the March 30th 1973 on the network CBS. In France, the series was diffused starting from the October 10th 1967 on the second channel of ORTF. In Quebec, the chain on which it was diffused varied according to the time (Radio-Canada, TQS, Canal D).
One second series, entitled Mission impossible, 20 years after ( Mission: Impossible ), in 35 48 minutes episodes was diffused between the October 23rd 1988 and the February 24th 1990 on the network ABC.
It gave rise to films and to video games, also.
Synopsis
This series, immortalized by the music of Lalo Schifrin and its introduction, via a tape recorder, “Hello, Mr Phelps. Your mission, if however accept it to you… ”, in scene a team of American secret agents puts, members of the IMF ( Impossible Mission Forces ) for which one holds the most delicate missions. Each one of these spies is expert in a field: make-up, disguises, developed of very sophisticated material,…In the majority of the episodes, the team intervenes is in countries, all fictitious, of Latin America or Europe of the East. Their missions are very diverse and very dangerous: coups d'etat, Destabilization, Misinformation, Handling S, Plot S, substitutions, Infiltration S, against Revolution S, etc In the context of the Cold war, they safeguard the interests of the United States and their allies.
Their operations are not legal, and it is for this purpose they are ritually prevented: “If you or one of your agents were captured or killed, the State Department would deny to have been informed of your intrigues. Good luck, Jim. ”
Their means are incredibly sophisticated: Double S, actors, headstocks of wax, counterfeit money, put in scene, miniaturized electronics, imitation, disguises, Cosmetic surgery,… Often infiltrated in the middle same of the modes fantoches, the spectator fears perpetually that they are not uncovered.
Distribution
Even if the series has like principal “character” a team, there is nevertheless a high-speed motorboat: Serious Peter, Prototype of the American reassuring with the steel nerves and the hair of snow, whom incarnates the foreman, Jim Phelps. One in general sees it nothing making the special one, it is the only one not to have a precise speciality. It seems to directly receive the orders of a distance higher service of which one knows about nothing, and never discusses the technical solutions under consideration by its assistants, however lunatic are they. This series, very innovating by its form at the time, was a considerable success, but was stopped because of its exorbitant cost.In 1988, Mission impossible, 20 years after ressuscita the series, but success not being with go, it stopped after two seasons.
Derivative products
Films
Three films, Mission: Impossible (1996), Mission: Impossible 2 (2000) and Mission: Impossible 3 (2006), were produced by Tom Cruise, which is also actor. The realization of these films was entrusted to two important scenario writers: Brian De Palma and John Woo. Those, in spite of the constraints (weight of the series and actor-payer), succeeded in making films which are clean for them.
