Anne-Francoise-Hippolyte Boutet , called Miss Mars , is a French Comédienne born with Paris the February 9th 1779 and died in the same city the March 20th 1847.
Beginnings
Natural girl of the actors Monvel and Jeanne-Marguerite Salvetat, known as Mrs Mars, it enters to the Comédie-Française in 1795, thanks to another actress, Louise Contat. She there plays of the roles of ingenuous and in love with the French theater, mainly Molière, and is allowed like member in 1799. In 1812, Miss Contat leaves, it touve thus of other employment, in particular that of vain (it will play Célimène in the Misanthropist ) or that of marchioness in the parts of Marivaux.Paris admires its talent, its charm and its play of actress. Napoleon grants to him an interview in a kiosk of the garden of Rambouillet, following what it will protect it. In addition, both are appreciated sincerely.
After the Empire
With the Restoration, Miss Mars is victim of a campaign against it, the royalists not forgiving him her career under the Empire. On the other hand Louis XVIII acts differently and allots to him a pension of 30.000 books for its talent. Miss Mars takes the risk to play in the first modern and romantic dramas. She will succeed in adapting to these sometimes difficult roles.In 1841, it gives its representation of good-byes to the Comédie-Française, in the role of Célimène. It is then 62 years old. Until its death, in 1847, it will live in Paris in a private mansion. She will play in purse losing enormous sums, and while lending to much. But its fortune will allow him such extravagances. With its death it will erase the debts that one owed him.
