Mirko Filipović

Mirko “Cro COP” Filipović , born the September 10th 1974, is famous a Croatian Kickboxer evolving/moving from now on in the circuit of the free Combat. It successfully belongs to the rare combatants having evolved/moved at the same time on the circuit K-1 and the circuit of the Pride Fighting Championship. It makes 1 m 88 per 103 kgs. Its nickname of “Cro COP” comes from its Croatian nationality and its past of Policier: it is a former commando Croatian anti-terrorist. He belonged to the ATJ Lucko.

Coming from the foot fists, Cro COP feels particularly at ease at the time of the phases of combat upright, and it is particularly fears for its famous high kick of the left leg, certainly its most frightening weapon. He is the champion of Pride Open Grand Prix Weight 2006. He envisaged if all occurs well to gain the belt of the UFC and to return in Pride for the combat of the Titans against Fedor Emelianenko and to take the belt to him.

Recently, Mirko has finally to decide to leave Pride to join the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Its signature was officially announced by Dana White. Cro COP will make its beginnings in the octagone vis-a-vis Eddie Sanchez at the time of the UFC 67. Its only regret is to see deferred the prospect for a revenge vis-a-vis Fedor.

Biography

Filipovic began its professional path in 1996 like kickboxer, according to the steps of its compatriot Branko Cikatić. At the same time, Filipovic worked as commando in the Croatian police force (unit Alpha anti-terrorist) in the town of Lucko close to Zagreb, which explains its nickname of “Cro COP” ( Croatian COP ). It also fought some times at the beginning of its career under the nickname of Tiger .

Its larger success in kick-boxing was in 1999 when it reaches the finale of the K-1 Grand Prix where it is beaten by Ernesto Hoost (it had a coast broken since the semi-final).

In 2002, it leaves its trade of police officer anti-terrorist for concenter on his sporting career.

In November 2003, Mirko presents on the list of the social-democratic Parti (SDP) like independent candidate to the Croatian legislative elections and obtains a seat of deputy. This party affirms however ideas Homophobes and sometimes racists and has also certain ramifications with gangster mouvences. However this party is not officellement close to the extreme right-hand side on the political chessboard, but is not nevertheless near either to the left.

In 2004, Mirko recruits Fabricio Werdum to improve its level on the ground (it turns definitively the page with Mike Bencic). In 2006, Fabricio Werdum leaves Cro COP to launch out in a professional path.

Mirko currently lives in Zagreb with his wife and her son.

The second sporting passion of Mirko is the Football. If he is not really an expert, Mirko is a correct player all the same, and he disputed his first meetings last season with the HNK Cibalia. And even if it should not play in the first division, the club did not hesitate to recruit it. " It will bring a supplement of motivation and force to our équipe" , Davor Mladina, the trainer of Cibalia declared. On its side Mirko declares with much humor " For me, the only way of marking, that would be to corrupt all the opposing team! ".
