Miriam Hopkins
Ellen Miriam Hopkins is an American actress born the October 18th 1902 with Savannah, Georgia (the United States), died the October 9th 1972 with New York (New York).
Biography
Born with Savannah, Georgia and raised with Bainbridge, it finishes its studies in the Vermont and at the university of Syracuse with New York. At 20 years, it becomes " chorus-girl". In 1930, it signs a contract with the Paramount, and makes its first film: Fast and Loose .During the Thirties, she plays in the Lieutenant smiling (1931), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931), Becky Sharp (1935), for which she obtains a nomination with the Oscar of the best actress, Ville without law (1935), They were three (1936) and the Old maid (1939). Its most outstanding film of this time remains the chief of work of Ernst Lubitsch Sérénade to three (1932) where it imposes a character full with charm and spirit.
Miriam Hopkins belonged to the troop of actresses auditioned for the role of Scarlett O' Hara in Gone With The Wind . She left with an advantage on her competitors, being the only one with being really originating in Georgia. But that will not be enough, and the role will go to Vivien Leigh, pursued by Paulette Goddard.
Bette Davis will write later that the insecurity from which Miriam Hopkins suffered led it to behaviors of strong competition on the plates. After their two collaborations ( the Old maid (1939) and the impossible love (1943), Miriam Hopkins does not turn any more during 6 years. She again turns in 1949 in the Heiress , then she returns to the comedy by incarnating the mother of Gene Tierney in the Time of the loves in 1951.
She was married four times: with the actor Torch Peters, the aviator Austin Parker, the realizer Anatole Litvak, and with the war journalist correspondent Raymond B. Brock. In 1932, Miriam Hopkins adopts a boy, Michael Hopkins.
She dies in New York of an heart attack, 9 days before celebrating her 70 years.
She has two stars on the Hollywood Walk off Famed: for the cinema at the 1701 Street Fortifies, and for television at the 1708 Vine Street.
