Miramax Films

Miramax Corp Films. is a production company and of American distribution of cinema which forms part, since 1993, of the Walt Disney Company.

Miramax was created in 1979 by the brothers Harvey and Robert Weinstein in order to distribute films considered to be nonprofitable by the large Hollywood studios. The name of the company is the combination of the first names of the parents of the two brothers: Max and Reflected.

Among the most outstanding productions of Miramax, one can quote Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), the English patient (1996), Will Hunting (1997), Shakespeare in Coils (1999), Kill Bill (2003 and 2004) and Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004).

Miramax had a subsidiary company, Dimension Films, which is specialized in films of kind. It is especially known to have produced the series of the Scary Movie , whose three episodes parody great cinematographic successes of the Années 2000 and the Spy Kids.

In 2005, the Weinstein brothers, creators of the company, will leave the management of the firm, after a dissension with the Disney group, whose Miramax is a subsidiary company. The two brothers have to create a new group of media, the Weinstein Company, around the subsidiary company Dimension Films of which they kept control.
