History

Minzier was formerly close to a pilgrimage which fell in disuse.

The thirteen communes of the canton of Saint-Julien were favorable to the annexation in Switzerland by the idea of a treaty supported by England but that was not done… from where a favorable vote with the annexation of these common Sardinians to France in 1860 with a " oui" clearly but including the idea of free zone allowing of the commercial exchanges with very close Switzerland.

During the Second world war, the commune counted the many faithful ones to the Maréchal Pétain, until the invasion of the southern zone. Thus, with the wire of time, few manpower of resistant S very few to Minzier, grew bigger by the fact of the massive refusal to STO in Haute-Savoie, with less than four hundred present for more than three thousand necessary.

Before this period the local prétre, arrived in 194I, was persuaded that the decline of a local pilgrimage was fault of the atheists, Communists, freemasons and Jews, and left in general. Supported by a preserving municipal majority (like everywhere in France, the mayor, not elected, was named by the Régime of Vichy) and was hostile with school co-education like at the public school. By principle, it effectively supported a catholic private school then folded up with Minzier while obliging the laic teacher, made in 1942, to make baptize his children with the Catholic church of the village. But nobody then was conscious that the Nazis made the disctinction between the Jews be off-set and other children in possession of a certificate of baptism which obtaining was prohibited by the évéque one when it acted Jewish children and certain priests passed in addition to… There be thus a coexistence " tendue" but " without overflows of share and autres" between two schools of girls, one laic, the other catholic, all being made to discourage the laic teachers, whereas the teachers of the school of the boys did not have a teaching vocation inevitably and were often absent…

The village counted several networks of resistant which were unaware of mutually; one of them, in direct relationship with London and directed by Doctor Bonnier, in connection with the former servicemen of " the army secréte" (ACE) which had refused the terms of the Armistice however required personally by the Marshal Pétain (redition and disarmament without combat of the troops engaged in the war in 1939). This military information network conveyed also the fugitive ones, parachuted weapons, as of the gold coins so that resistance can provide for its food by the means of the laic teacher.

Thus, the evenings of absence of the teacher (who however belonged to another resistance network and being unaware of that of his colleague), the roof of the public school of Minzier was used as reference mark with the planes combined to guide itself in the operations of parachutings on the site of Glières and that thanks to a flashlight. Local resistance took part in the organization of dies to facilitate the passage in Switzerland of the escaped prisoners of war… In spite of a support massive legalist favorable to the Pétain Marshal, until the occupation of Haute-Savoie by the German armies, of old of catholic agricultural working youths other clandestine networks of resistance animated effectively; certain inhabitants of the commune spoke German, others were freemasons and belonged to various maconnic cabins like that of the Friends of the humanity of the Grand Lodge of France (1937), or that of the cabin " Allobrogie" (1943) and which was at the same time a network of resistant and whose members was off-set.

The only letter of known denouncement aimed at the laic teacher and was the fact of another laic teacher of another commune. Another character marking of the commune, the factor was him an enthusiastic follower of the Pétain Marshal.

In addition, of the weapons were hidden under the estrades laic classes of the schools of the boys and more especially of the girls like in the Master-hotel of the church like under the estrade.

In spite of the strong tensions " under main" with the public schools, the nuns aidérent Jewish young girls to pass to Switzerland like, later, also of the girls of militiamans…

The resistant ones are alliérent against the S.S while saving the captive German soldiers, except some particular cases operated by foreign men of the maquis with the area. Inevitably, there be here like elsewhere, some settlings of score or attacks of common right more for reasons of quarrels of vicinity that for really political reasons or of effective collaboration. The militia having massively become discredited, had few local members. With the Release, the peace returned, the preserving municipal majority since one century made place with various minorities of left…

More recently, the architect Pascal Hausermann envisaged to carry out a " village of saucers volantes" in Minzier, but for lack of financings, it made only one single specimen of it.

Currently like everywhere in Haute-Savoie, working and country manpower knew a strong decline, and the creation of second home and frontier jobs in Geneva transformed the practices and rural manners of Antant: the church empties its faithful ones, and the elementary school became inter-commune.

Finally two curiosities to be noted: the war memorial I914-1918 as well as the statue of Jeanne d' Arc who deserves a history.
