Minyades

The Minyades are the girls of the king of Orchomène in Béotie, Minyas. They were three and named Leucippé ( Λευχιππη ), Arsinoé ( Άρσινόη ) and Alcathoé ( Άλχαθόη ). According to the legend, they refused to go to Bacchanales and to be devoted to the worship of Dionysos. To be avenged it punishes them by striking them of madness and they dismembered Hippasos the young person wire of Leucippé. They were then transformed into corbel, bat and owl. This crime strapping and its atonement are at the base of the festival béotienne Agrionies.
