Minstrel show
The minstrel show , or minstrelsy , was an American spectacle created towards the end of the Années 1820, where appeared songs, dances, music, comic interludes, initially interpreted by white actors which blackened the face, then, especially after the American Civil War, by blacks themselves.
The Blacks of these spectacles seemed ignoramuses, stupid, superstitious, merry, and endowed by the dance and the music. The professional actors forsook the kind about 1910, but amateurs made it last until in the Années 1950. The rise of the fight against racism made them disappear definitively.
