History
The parish of Miniac-Morvan belonged to the deanery of concerning Fraud évêché of Fraud and is placed under the term of holy Pierre.The parish existed already at the 12th century. However, there exist Gallo-Roman vestiges in the commune. According to a legend, the hermit Saint Colomban would have built at the 7th century an oratory in a forest. This oratory is replaced thereafter by a priory which disappears towards the end from the 17th century. This priory, which depends before 1245 on the abbey on Saint-Florent in Anjou, is reassigned with the Notre-Dame Abbey of the Tronchet.
The traditional economic activity of Miniac-Morvan was at the same time related on agricluture and fishing:
- Until the 19th century, hemp was particularly cultivated in the commune, with also a great number of tisserands. This activity disappeared about 1880.
- Until the beginning from the 20th century, of many men of the commune take part in the fishing years to Newfoundland. Thus in each December, the owners of ships came to recruit their crews at the time of “rented sea” originating in Miniac-Morvan, one can note:
- Louis de Goyon-Miniac , hero of the Combat of the Thirty in 1351.
- Olivier de Miniac, cousin and comrade in arms of the constable Bertrand of Guesclin
- Marguerite de Miniac , girl of the precedent, it Marie on April 18th, 1421 with Jean Goyon of Matignon. They would be ancètres Grimaldi, family reigning of Monaco.
