Minerve (airline company)
.
Minerve was a company " Charter" where " flights with the demande" Frenchwoman, created in 1975, by Rene Fernand Meyer (former leader of Air Cameroun) and a band of friends.
Minerve, launching
Minerve begins its exploitation with a Caravelle SE210 based with the Le Bourget. In 1979, following the stop of the activities of exploitation of the airline companies in the air terminal of Le Bourget, Aéroports of Paris transfers it to Orly, on the southern terminal. Thanks to this removal " forcé" , Minerve obtains the authorization of self-assistance and continuous to carry out for the account of travel agencies or associations, of the specific flights " AD-hoc" where in series " chaines" on all the Mediterranean basin, at the beginning of Paris as well as all French airports. In 1980, two four-jet aircrafts of the type DC8-53 188Y (ex-JAL) come to supplement the fleet, this in order to be able to operate long-distance between Belgium and the Antilles (NF), then at the beginning of France towards Peru (Uniclam).
Meyer buys a DC8-63 (250Y) which it transforms into DC8-73 (CFM56) put in line in June 1984. This aircraft flies mainly for Nouvelles Borders at the beginning of Brussels towards Pointe to Clown and Fort de France… It is the ineptitude of the rights of traffic, and especially the driven out sacro-guard of the National company Air France.
A contract in July 1984 with an American Tour operator " Chartours" allows Minerve to cross the Atlantic Ocean, and weekly flights are thus launched towards San Francisco and Los Angeles.
1986, Opening of the DOM, TOM, French Polynesia,
In July 1986, it is the end of the Monopoly of Air France on the DOM-TOM and Minerve thus receives the authorizations to operate at the beginning of Paris towards Point-with-Clown and Fort de France.
A close cooperation and an agreement between two heavy trucks of French Tourism, Rene Fernand MEYER (the pilot) and Jacques SHIRT (the tour operator), which makes it possible the Company to fly to the four corners of the world.
While remaining leant with its main customers (News Borders), Minerve launches out in the marketing on line of its flights on the DOM-TOM.
The first agency is then created street Cambon, just opposite the head office. One had the practice in the box, to think that the Rene Fernand Meyer looked by the window of his office the number of customers who returned in his shop.
The Antilles go, Meyer attacks French Polynesia, then on Noumea, Cayenne and the Meeting.
Minerve was the first company " charter" Frenchwoman to put on line a B747-200, registered F-GHBM in 1988.
1991, Fusion, Creation Of AOM Minerve SA,
Following a financial montage at the beginning of 1991, Minerve is taken again by the Club the Mediterranean, which amalgamates it with the company Air Freedom pertaining to the competitor of Club Med, Club Aquarius, repurchased shortly after. This fusion is a true carnage, or each employee is proud of his culture, and, a war of every moment is launched.
In front of this failure due to the opposition of the personnel, the Club the Mediterranean resells it with Altus Finance, subsidiary of the Crédit Lyonnais (today LCL), which also hold, via another subsidiary company (Bank SAGA), another airline company: Air Overseas. A professional of air transport, Marc Rochet is then put at the head of the two companies to start their fusion and to create AOM French Airlines.
October 1991: It is the end of Minerve, and the beginning of another adventure. Remain that the future epopee will be written with its print: flight operated " IW" .
