Minerval
In Belgium, one calls minerval the registration fee in the high schools and the universities for the pupils Belgian or resulting from the European Union. The amount of this right varies according to the year of study, the establishment and the situation of the applicant.
Etymology of the term
The minerval term is derived from the name Minerve, goddess Greek of wisdom, sciences and arts, to which is added the Suffixe - Al, which transforms the Substantif into Adjectif. Allegorically, studying it which thus discharges sound minerval pay its tribute with wisdom, sciences and arts.
The metaphorical direction of this expression made say to some Belgian philologists which it is about a noble Belgicisme, to oppose to the common Belgian-French phrases which do not enrich the French language at all.
Use of the term
If the term is of common practical use in the Belgian society, the fact that it is about a regional Néologisme limits its use. Thus, in the official papers printed by the universities and the high schools, it is never question of minerval, but of registration fee, as in the other countries of the Francophonie.
