Mineral Water in Tunisia

The mineral water in Tunisia , conditioned for the Drink, represent a particularly dynamic economic sector.

Indeed, consumption - primarily local because the share of the Exportation is lower than 1% - exploded in ten years passing of a production of 110 million bottles in 1995 to 450 million in 2006. In parallel, the sector was liberalized in a score of years passing from three marks (Safia, Ain Oktor and Ain Garci) held by a single public company - the Company of the thermal spas and mineral water (SOSTEM) - with about fifteen marks which produce 260.000 bottles per hour. This diversity of the offer (natural mineral water and water of table) should not mask the crushing weight of the leader, the refrigerating Société and brewery of Tunis (SFBT), which holds 70% of market shares after having in particular repurchased the SOSTEM in 2003.

The mineral water is sold by companies having obtained a ministerial approval (in accordance with the law of 1993) and is controlled by the Office of Tunisian hydrotherapy. The selling price includes/understands a tax of 18% known as “tax of packing”. The companies manage installations of collecting of water ( source or Forage) and generally of the factories of conditioning.
