Origins

The 14th Dalaï Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is for a long time very interested by science. In 1973, he visited the laboratory of astrophysics of the Université of Cambridge. Ten years later, it went to the conference Alpbach Symposia one Consciousness - it met Francisco Varela there. Thereafter they had several talks. At the time of a visit of Dalai Lama in France, this one then proposed to devote one week to him to Dharamsala in the north of the India.

Varela met itself R. Adam Engle who precisely wished such an exchange. It was the origin of the first week of talks between scientists and current the Dalai LAMA. Following 3rd of these conference the Mind and Life Institute was founded.
