Mincio

The Mincio is a river of Italy, long 73 km, tributary of left bank of the Po and emissary of the Lake Garda. Upstream of Lake Garda, it bears the name of Sarca. Its course is located essentially in Lombardy except for a few kilometers which is in Venezia (Province of Vérone). It is since 1984 included in the territory of the Regional natural park of Mincio, instituted by the area lombarde.

Its higher course starts on southernmost bank of Lake Garda, to 65 m of altitude, close to Peschiera and undergoes a descent of 38 m in 28 km until Goito. Then it crosses the town of Mantoue (Lombardy) where it widens in three lakes: superior, means and inferior. The course lower of Mantoue than Governolo with its mouth on the Po, enclosed between two dams, is navigable.
