Minamoto No Yoshitomo

Minamoto No Yoshitomo , in Japanese ja 源義朝, (1123-1160) is a hero of the clan of the Minamoto in the Heiji and the Hôgen Monogatari.

Governor of the province of Shimotsuké (northern of Tokyo) like captain of the stables of the left . Father of famous the Minamoto Yoritomo (Shôgun) and of the general Minamoto Yoshitsune.

During the disorders of the era Hôgen, Yoshitomo joined the party of the emperor Go-Shirakawa, at the side of its future rival Taira No Kiyomori, and becomes an adversary of his/her father Minamoto No Tameyoshi like that of many his/her brothers (of which Minamoto No Tametomo), which joined the party of the Jōkō (withdrawn emperor) Sutoku.

July 11th, 1156, Yoshitomo and Kiyomori attack jointly the Palate of the Jōkō . At the beginning of the battle, the partisans of Sutoku seem to carry it, thanks to the heroic defense of the Tametomo archer. During the confrontation, Yoshitomo will miss being made kill by this last which, by provocation, drove an arrow to him on the wing of its helmet. After putbeing put in rout first once, the troops of the Shirakawa emperor ends up gaining the battle by setting fire to the palate of the Jōkō. On order of Go-Shirakawa, Yoshitomo is charged to stop and carry out the members of its family being beaten for Sutoku.

After the battle, Kiyomori, much being however less beaten than Yoshitomo, is more rewarded. Yoshitomo keeps rancour of it more especially as it had to put at death good number of people of its own clan.

In December 1159, Minamoto Yoshitomo joint with Fujiwara No Nobuyori to try a coup d'etat. Benefitting from the departure of Kiyomori, become protective of Go-Shirakawa, in pilgrimage with Kumano, Yoshitomo and Nobuyori attack by surprised the palate of Sanjo to capture Go-Shirakawa and his/her son Nijō. Yoshitomo is overcome the following year by Kiyomori, returned in haste with Kyôto, to save the emperor. Yoshitomo is carried out but Kiyomori, convinced by supplications of his/her mother-in-law, Ikenozunni, saving her two sons in low age, Yoshitsune and Yoritomo, who will be exiled in the peninsula of Izu.
