Minamoto No Noriyori

Minamoto No Noriyori (源範頼) (1156 - 1193) was a Samurai and a general of the periods Heian and Kamakura of the history of the Japan. It was the ninth wire of Minamoto No Yoshitomo and the half-brother of Minamoto No Yoritomo and Minamoto No Yoshitsune at the sides on which it fought at the time of the Guerre of Gempei. He and his/her two half-brothers, all three infants in 1160, is the only ones to be saved at the time of the massacres which followed the death of their father during the Rébellion of Heiji.

Biography

After being saved and being exiled by Will conceal No Kiyomori in 1160, it disappears completely from the chronicles until in 1180, when it joined his Yoritomo brother with Kamakura at the beginning of the war of Gempei. Starting from 1184, four years after the beginning of the war, it is sent to the combat by Yoritomo, and carves a way to the fortresses Taira Shikoku.

After the rebellion of his cousin Minamoto No Yoshinaka, it takes part, under the orders of Yoshitsune, with the combat against him, initially the February 19th 1184 with the second battle of Uji, then the 21 with the Bataille of Awazu, where Yoshinaka finds death. He plays then a central role in the Bataille of Ichi-No-Tani against Taira the March 18th. The war knows a pause of approximately six months, during which Noriyori turns over to Kyōto.

Noriyori is again sent in forwarding, in October 1184, to make safe by the ground the provinces of the Région of Chūgoku, Taira territory par excellence, before going to Kyūshū. The October 8th, it leaves with troops coldly arrived the east and arrived in Harima, it is informed of activities of Taira in the port of Kojima, where it carries the victory, them Taira fleeing by the sea out of reach its riders.

However, trying to push further, it encounters difficulties, confronted with a lack of resources and the fact that the Inland sea is controlled by its enemies. In January 1185, It writes with his/her brother with Kamakura, and is seen answering that the supply is in way but that them Taira supervised the country, and that consequently any delivery was to be made with precaution. Arrived at the Strait of Shimonoseki and always without ships, Noriyori is found blocked. Ilparvient finally to get rice, other various resources, as well as handles of Jonque S of war near a tycoon of the Province of Suō. It goes then on Kyūshū, in accordance with the plans, and remains over there, not playing any part in the naval Bataille decisive of DaN-No-ura.

After the end of the War of Gempei, Noriyori turns over to Kamakura, where it is rewarded for its services by Yoritomo. However, there are soon dissentions between Yoritomo and Yoshitsune, this last ending up being declared outlaw and escaping, and Yoritomo orders in Noriyori to go to stop their brother. After having tried in vain to dissuade Yoritomo, Noriyori decides quite simply to disobey and be unaware of the order.

In May 1193, whereas Yoritomo directs a great hunting on the Mont Fuji, it occurs an incident during which two brothers belonging to the Clan Soga kill Suketune Kudo, an enemy of their father.

The rumor is spread whereas Yoritomo would have been killed, and whereas the wife of Yoritomo, Masako Hōjō, worries some, Noriyori ensures to him that even in the absence of Yoritomo, it would be always there for her and for the clan. When they are brought back to him, these words sow the doubt in the spirit of Yoritomo, and it exiles his brother in the Province of Izu. There, it soon is attacked and killed by warriors of Yoritomo.
