Miltiades Caridis

Miltiades Caridis or Miltiádis Karýdis (in) is a Leader germano - Greek born with Gdańsk in 1923 and died with Athens in 1997.

Biography

Caridis was born from a German mother and a Greek father. It passed its youth to Dresden but its family moved in Greece in 1938. He then studied the music with the Conservatoire national of Athens directed by Manólis Kalomíris and was the only survivor of his class after the Second world war. After the war, it pousuivit its studies in Hochschule für Musik of Vienna (current Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst of Vienna ) near Joseph Marx and Hans Swarowsky.

It directed the Orchestra of Graz, the Orchestra of Cologne, the Opéra of State of Vienna (1962 - 1969), the Philharmonica Hungarica (1960 - 1967), the Philharmonic orchestra of Oslo (1969 - 1975), Duisburger Sinfoniker (1975 - 1981), Tonkünstler-Orchester Vienna (1979 - 1985) and, until its death, the Orchestra of Radio Greek (1995 - 1997).

It was rewarded by the medal Béla Bartók in 1981 to have contributed to the diffusion of the work of this type-setter. It was also preceded in 1991 by the Académie of Athens.

He died in Athens, struck down by an attack whereas he repeated with the National orchestra of Greece.
