Miltiade (pope)
Saint Miltiade or Melchiade , having been born in Africa, it belongs to the category of the African popes. He is bishop of Rome of 311 until his death the 10 or the January 11th 314.
Historically, he is the first pope to be profited from favors of Roman Emperor: Maxence, raising repressive measurements against the Christians, authorized his election into 311, after one vacancy of évêché of Rome of several years.
After the elimination of Maxence by Constantin Ier, the mother of this last offered to him the palate of Lateran which belonged to the imperial possessions. It is there that it organized the regional Concile of Lateran in 313, to slice on the election of the bishop of Carthage disputed by the donatists.
Although it seems to be dead natural causes, it is regarded as martyr and is celebrated the December 10th.
