Milt Jackson

Milt Jackson (January 1st 1923 with Strait - October 9th 1999) was a vibraphonist of American Jazz , and one of the great figures of the Hard bop.

Milton " Milt" Jackson says also " Bags" forged its style with the listening of the boppers while remaining close to the spirit of the Blues and of the Gospel S. He was the first vibraphonist to be played in the style Be bop.

He is discovered by Dizzy Gillespie in 1946 which offers a place in its sextet to him. Milt acquires a solid experiment quickly while playing with the greatest figures of the jazz of the time: John Coltrane, Woody Hermann, Howard McGhee, Thelonious Monk, and Charlie Parker. In the Big band of Gillespie, he plays in four-bit byte with John Lewis, Percy Heath, and Kenny Clarke when the section copper takes pauses. This group will become Modern Jazz Four-bit byte (MJQ) which will follow beautiful and 20 years long career independent until 1974 (while waiting for the reformation in 1981).

Milt plays during this time with many small formations. It records in particular for Norman Granz' S Pablo Records on " Jackson, Johnson, Brown & Company" (1983); with Jackson, J.J. Johnson with the Trombone, Ray Brown with the low , Tom Ranier with the Piano, the guitarist John Hakes, and the beater Roy McCurdy.

It is also invited per many artists of Jazz, drunk Blues and , for example B.B. King, Ray Charles, Miles Davis, etc… Its composition Bags' Groove (" Bags" it is its nickname, which comes from the pockets under its eyes when it arrives late) became a standard of jazz.
