Milonga
The milonga is a Chant and a popular Danse of Argentine and Uruguay. One knows of it especially the narrowly related urban form with the Tango.
The term milonga can also indicate the evenings or Bal S reserved for the Argentinian Tango, the waltz tango and the milonga, as well as the place where one dances.
The milonga indicates also a fraud: on this subject one will be able to refer to the Argentinian expression “emptied it are una milonga” (the life is a fraud…).
This term indicates in addition a style of Flamenco in Spain, probably derived from the Argentinian milonga but which in is from now on completely distant.
The milonga is diffused as of the middle of the 19th century in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. Mixing to the musical rate/rhythm afro-Uruguyan Candombe ( work song rate/rhythm that sing the African slaves black) and the innate Habanera Cuba, the milonga is at the same time popular song and dance with the accents sometimes involving melancholic persons but despite everything, deep and animated. It allows the men come to seek fortune, very many for a number of women very limited, to put itself in competition. Because of scarcity of the women, but also of the male company of which it takes part very quickly, it is danced primarily between men.
Music
The milonga is before a a whole merry dance (fast) whereas the tango is sad (slow) and that the Argentinian waltz is melancholic person. Technically, the milonga is a dance at two times, whereas the tango has four of them.There exist several types of milongas:

Concerning Miguel Villasboas, author and pianist, we find also “tangomilongas”, at the rate/rhythm very pleasant to dance for the experts.
Dance
The milonga is danced technically like the tango, but not in the same spirit. The rate/rhythm is sharper, more alarm. The dance is thus merrier and simpler.Various styles are distinguished:

There exists also the milonga- Candombé, whose prototype is the Carnavalito of Lucio Demare and Raúl Berón.
The ball
The milonga makes it possible alternatively to dance the three Argentinas dances which dance " like tangos". The tango itself, the Argentinian waltz and the milonga. The dance milonga being former to the tango, it is it which gave its name to the ball.The three Argentinas dances are based on walk, consequently the couples move on the track. It is necessary thus, independently of the type of dance, to comply with rules of circulation to avoid the collisions and the kicks. The couples must be located preferably on the edge of the track, and circulate in the opposite direction of the needles of a watch.
If the track fills, some rules of good sense apply. To avoid the dangerous movements for the neighbors (like the boleos ), and to look at where one goes. In particular, the men (who have the responsibility for guidance) must look well behind them before taking a step backwards!
The musical programming of the milonga is usually done by alternating the series of tangos, waltz and milongas (called each one a Tanda) intersected by a Cortina.
