Millimetre-length institute of radioastronomy

Origin

The millimetre-length Institute of radioastronomy or Iram was founded in 1979. It is the result of a collaboration between the France, the Germany and the Spain. Thus, it has a partner for each one of these countries: CNRS (National center of the scientific research) for France, the MPG (max Planck Gesellschaft) for Germany and the IGN (Instituto Geográfico Nacional) for Spain.

Activity

The principal activity of this research institute is the study of the cold matter: this in order to allow us to better include/understand the objects which compose our Univers.
For that, it has two observation aids: But the IRAM does not limit only to the astronomical observation : she also seeks to develop new technologies and instruments of observation in order to obtain better a quality of reception of the millimetre-length and submillimeter waves.
