Mill with oil

The Mill can press olives of several olive-growing owners it is the case in the co-operative olive-growing.

There exist various types of mill with oils (of olives)

Roman presses

The press with tree

One dates his appearance in the surrounding from the VI {E} century before J-C.

  1. - vertical Axis/large beam or prelum

  2. - variable Notches heights allowing to vary the pressure and the quantity of scourtins
  3. - Lever allowing to operate the Capstan
  4. - Notch in Dovetail being used to fix the " raise " (wood inks pillars in the ground if rock or a counterweight) of the capstan.
  5. - Scourtins
  6. - the grinding stone dug of one or more drains for the flow of oil towards the basins/tanks of storages.

The press with rocker

Date from the first century before J-C. It is a large wood screw which, while turning, pushes on the trunk which presses the scourtins.

The press with direct screws

It makes are appearance in antiquity. Alternative of the press with rocker, remplaceant the trunk by plates (also of wood) in order to press the scourtins.

Presses with vault

The presses with vault appear with the XVIII {E} century. In this principle, the screw presses directly. In order to fight against the forces of résitance at the time of pressing, the mill were directly embedded in the frame. This system is called “press with vault” because of the shape in cross which one gave to the structure being used to maintain the screw in place. the cellars of the Holy Palate Firmin with Gordes show examples of site of these presses with vault.
