Mill of Sannois

the mill of Sannois is a windmill with pivot of the 18th century, located at Sannois, city of the Val-d'Oise, to approximately 15 km in the North-West of Paris.

Located at the top of the hillock of the Trouillet Mount, dominating the Valley of Montmorency and the valley of the the Seine, it offers an exceptional point of view.

History

The mill of Sannois is rare a Moulin with pivot. It is, according to the specialists, the most important mill of this type and best preserved France.

Set up in 1759 per François Roger, vine grower with Franconville, it functioned until in 1866. The central beam being used to him as pivot, cut in the wood of a Oak old 500 years, reached height a six meters of only one holding. The whole of the mill weighs more than forty tons (the interior mechanism of the mills made it possible to transform the wind into mechanical force which crushes the grain). Beside the mill, the “House of the miller” was set up at the 19th century and was restored in 1994 and 1995. A restaurant occupies the walls of them since the Années 1920.

The mills of Sannois were often painted by Maurice Utrillo at the time of his stay in the city in 1912 and 1913: there were indeed at that time two another mills out of wooden, disappeared since. Closed a time because very degraded by the years and the bad weather, the building was reopened with the public in October 1976, after the work of restoration committed and financed by the municipality, become owner in 1939.

The site of the hillock of the Trouillet Mount, mill included/understood, was classified in 1934. The building is registered with the inventory of the historic buildings since the May 12th 1975.

The storm of December 1999 broke a wing and damaged the “wheel” (Roue interdependent of the axis of the wings and provided with teeth out of hard wooden). The mill was restored once again since.

In 2004, a vineyard of 2050 feet was planted on 3000 m ² with the foot of the mill. The first grape harvest took place in September 2006.

Access

The mill is accessible by the Transilien Paris Saint-Lazare, station of Sannois, then in the bus, line 30.22, stop “Residence of the mill”.
Il is opened with the public, for the private individuals each Sunday of 13:30 to 18:30 and for the groups on go in week.
