Milk apple

The apple of milk or apple star also called caïmite is the fruit of the Chrysophyllum cainito or caïmitier, tree of the family of the Sapotaceae .

Description

It is called:

  • “milk apple” owing to the fact that a milky pulp leaves there when it is cut and
  • “apple star” because when one cuts it perpendicularly it shows a spangled heart.

The milk apple is a fruit of the size of a Pomme standard.

Its skin is wrinkled and of color green or purple dark according to the variety. The violet variety has a skin thicker than the green one which is, in addition, juicier.

The interior is farinaceous and contains nonedible pip S.
