Miljacka river

The river Miljacka is a river of Bosnia-Herzégovine which crosses the town of Sarajevo. It is also known besides under the name of " River of Sarajevo". The river is an affluent of the river Bosna. Its source is in the town of Pale several kilometers at the east of Sarajevo. It runs of is in west.

The river is known for its odor and its brownish water but nevertheless is appreciated by the inhabitants of Sarajevo. More than 20 bridges cross the river including one carried out by Gustave Eiffel which is at the origin of the Eiffel Tower. One also finds the Latin Pont of Sarajevo (or Princip bridge) near the place of the assassination of François-Ferdinand of Austria by Gavrilo Princip. This assassination was the element release of the First World War.
