Militate castri
At the 11th century, each large lord, to reinforce his control on the seigniory, will surround by bonds vassalic. He indeed needs men, of professionals of the war: the bellatores or militate . To secure their fidelities, it offers benefit to them: honors or grounds. Thus one will see vassal knights who will live in the castles of the lord who will maintain them (militate castri).
