Military national museum of history

The National museum of military history , also known under the Initials MNHM , is a Musée located in the buildings of old the Brasserie of Diekirch, with the Luxembourg. The main theme which it approaches is the Bataille of the Ardennes in Luxembourg, battles which took place during the Second world war during the winter 1944 - 45. This museum is resulting from the historical Museum of Diekirch, open in 1984.

Collection

The red wire of the museum is the historical representation of military operations in the Ardennes by respecting the American point of view of, German and Civil. More: 3000 m ² of surface of exposure and many Diorama S to the scale 1:1, allow a detailed sight of the situations in which military and civil were formerly taken. Special rooms show important collections of weapons, of uniform, military equipment of any kind, Véhicule S with wheels and caterpillars, as well as many personal objects, photographs, documents and charts. The showpiece is the meticulous representation of the crossing of the Sûre close to Diekirch the January 18th 1945, by units of the 5th division of American infantry.

A second part of the museum is devoted to the history of the Luxembourg armed forces since creation of the Grand Duchy until now. A selection of dioramas life size cover the important chapters and aspect-keys of the Luxembourg army of post-war period. Other sections are devoted to the Luxembourgers with the service of allied during the Première and Second world war, like during the Guerre of Korea. The Luxembourg missions within the the United Nations are also treated and other exposures tell daily military life.

The military National museum of history is founding member of the Belgo-Luxembourg Association of the museums of the battle of the Ardennes (Amba).

He is in addition european partner of the National World War II Museum with La Nouvelle-Orléans, in the United States.
