Military academy

A military academy is an establishment of formation depending on the ministry for defense.

These schools train the military personnel or the children of military personnel named under the term of the Children reared by the army.

France

In France, one distinguishes the following categories of establishments:
  • military College, called “  in the past; military academy préparatoire  ”, which trains the pupils for obtaining a baccalaureat or to prepare the contests of schools or military universities.
  • school of initial training, which gives a general preparation to the military trade.
  • school of application which brings a specialization.
  • university which brings to the officers knowledge military activities of the more high level.

The Military academy is the name of a Parisian monument sheltering several establishments of higher education of the ministry for French Defense (CID, college interarmées of defense, which replaced the schools known as “  of Guerre  ” of each army, ESORSEM, IHEDN, CHEAR, etc). This school was created at the 18th century under the reign of Louis XV on proposal of the marshal of Saxony. Joseph Paris Duverney was the creator and the first Intendant. Napoleon Bonaparte made there his military studies of 1784 to 1785.
