Military Order of Merit (France)
Created by the law of March 22nd 1957 in France, the military Order of Merit was intended to reward, in times of peace, the voluntary activities of the executives reservists, in the instruction of the Reserves and the preparation of National defense. It could also be decreed with the executives of active taking part in the instruction of the Reserves apart from their usual employment.
This Order replaced the Croix of the Voluntary Military services (of which it took again the drawing) created in 1934. After the disappearance of the Order in 1963, replaced by the National order of the Merit, a new Medal of the Voluntary Military services was born in 1975.
The Order comprised three classes: Knight, Officer and Commander. The cross of Knight was out of money, that of Officer was in vermeil. The cross of Commander was out of gold with the enamelled branches of blue and a suspension brace of sheets of bay-tree.
