Military Jargon

General information

With the Conscription, the army constituted in France a cultural crucible. Were mixed in the same units of Parisian, Occitans, Breton or the Alsatian ones. It developed a specific vocabulary which one can describe as Jargon:

Alphabetical list of common expressions

AD : abbreviation of At disposal , which means that the officer ordering the unit did not program anything for the day, and that it leaves the troop at disposal of a lower officer; in a less formal way, when a soldier is AD, it is that it is quiet, that it does not have anything to make;
Aspi or Aspouille : Candidate.
Aspirine : candidate of female sex.
Gear : backpack or bag with parcelling. together of the equipment provided (fourniment) to the soldier by the furrier , and which it owes coltiner;
Bastos : ball of rifle or Gun, by extension, projectile.
Biffin : in, the infantryman Army. In the other armies, any soldier of the Army indicates.
Blue or Bleu fucks : soldier having little time of army. Comes from the revolutionary period during which the soldiers of the old army of the king still had the white uniforms, whereas the conscripts were in blue.
Bubble : " to wedge the bulle" : nothing to make, expression coming at the origin from the spirit level which it is necessary to leave in the medium to have the horizontal one.
Bosnian : Adjective. Not very orthodoxe. Sometimes risky.

Droper : one says: " droper the djebel" ; para term for " crapahuter". Comes from English " to drop" : to jump (in parachute). By extension, to press itself.
Hand lantern or Phalot : Military tribunal
To make Hole : to make prison during its time of army.
FOMECBLOT Fund, Form, Shade, Movement, Glare, Color, Noise, Light, Odor, Trace: means Mnémotechnique of the various essential components to the camouflage (even reasons and colors that bottom of the ground, not of form which is detached (thus to break the forms angular or long, like the arm), to dissimulate its movements which are immediately more visible, to avoid the glares, therefore brilliant matters, to remove noise, odor (body, of kitchen) and traces: of passage, like waste or ammunition)

: Travelling kitchen which accompanies the armies in their displacements.

Royal (It) : French National marine

Week : service of permanence

Sardines : gallons of warrant officer and troops to adjudant.

Sausage, sauceback : drudgery with the idiot given by a superior. Alternative: sausage-masked, it is about a sausage which falls you above by surprise without you not being able anything to make.

ADL : meant: Beyond the Legal duration; i.e. engaged and voluntary;

chibane or chibani : Old in Arabic. man with a moustache : Pilot of great experiment and very good wanker of handle (one not implying necessarily the other), by extension, large old.
