Mildura

Mildura (: 47168 inhabitants) is a city (" city") in the North-West of the state of Victoria on southern bank of the river Murray, to 550 km of Melbourne, the capital of the state. The area is in the center of a vast fruit-bearing production zone (citrus fruits and oranges in particular, table grapes) and wine.

The name of indigenous the east city of origin and means " sand rouge" or " eyes in larmes" according to the versions.

Many aboriginals (Latje Latje and Yerre Yerre) lived in the area before the arrival of Europeans because of the abundance of his food production. Europeans wanted to also settle there and imported sheep.

In 1886, Californian, George Chaffey came to settle in the area to make him benefit from its knowledge on the already widespread irrigation at the time in California. It was committed investing 300.000 £ in the 20 years to come to develop the area.

Apart from one period of recession in the years 1890 following the proliferation of rabbits and with an economic crisis, the city knew a regular growth.

The city, only located at 50 m with the top of the sea level knows a hot and dry climate.

The average of precipitations is approximately 290 mm distributed per annum over all the year with stronger falls of rain in winter and in spring and one or two storms per annum.

The city is very sunny with more than 100 days of large sun each year. The temperatures can go from 0°C the night in winter to more than 40 °C the day in summer.
