Mike Born

Mike Ness ( Michael James Born ) is a singer and American guitarist, leador and founder of the group Social Distortion.

Biography

Mike Ness is born with Stoneham, Massachusetts the April 3rd 1962 and grows with Orange County, California. Transfered family home at the 15 years age, it falls into the vicious circle from drug and the minor delinquency, while being implied in the punk scene. It founds Social Distortion in 1978. The group records its first album Mommy' S Little Monster at 13th Floor records in 1982.

At that time, the addiction of Mike for drugs and its self-destroying attitude worsen at such a point that they cause almost the separation of the group. Besides documentary the Another State off Mind gives an account of this period while following several groups in round through the USA, of which Social Distortion, Youth Brigade, Minor Threat…

The group crosses one idle period during which Mike makes several stays in prison, which will give besides following the recording of the second and excel album of Social Distortion, Prison Bound (Restless Records) several years later, in 1988. This album shows the group under a new day, with a more melody style and rock' roll, less punk, which will be its trademark thereafter.

In 1989, the group signs at Epic Records, label with which it records three albums ( Social Distorti one in 1990, Somewhere Between Heaven And Hell in 1992, and White Light, White Heat, White Trash in 1996).

The free group this label in 1996 to join Time Bomb recordings , independent label with which it leaves Mainliner: Wreckage From The Past (compilation of rare pieces, individual old men,…) then Live At The Roxy in 1998, the first album live of Social Distortion.

In 1999, Mike Ness records and by-product its first album solo, Cheating Solitary At , this album is a homage to these country influences, blues and rockabilly which one rocked throughout his career (Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins,…).

The same year, Mike records its second album solo, Under The Influences . This album is a whole of resumptions of standards of country, rockabilly, honky tonk, etc which influenced Mike during her life. It thus takes again Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, Wanda Jackson and others through excellent interpretations.

The death of Dannel Refusals in 2000, friend of childhood of Mike and rhythmic guitarist of Social D. during very a long time involves one idle period for the group which has just lost a expensive member.

Social Distortion makes its like back in 2004 with new and excel album, Sex, Love And Rock' Roll , with a song in homage to Dennis, Don' T Take Me For Granted . The exit of this album is accompanied by a DVD, Live Orange At County and is followed of a round throughout the world.

Mike and her group currently work on the next album, which according to a recent declaration, will not leave before 2008. They also have just prepared Greatest Hit with a new title, Far Behind .

Mike Ness currently lives with Santa Anna, California, with his wife, photographer, Christine Marie , and their two sons Johnny and Julian. He plays mainly on a Gibson the Paul (probably Paul Studio with of P-90) and restores cars of collection.
