Michael Bernard Bloomfield (July 28th 1943 - February 15th 1981) was a Guitariste, Chanteur and American Compositeur .
Born in a rich person Jewish family from Chicago, Michael Bloomfield discovered the Blues, the Rythm' blues and the Rockabilly on the waves of the radios of the South. It receipt its first guitar at the time of its bar mitzvah, and started to listen to electric blues in the southern districts of Chicago. It was not long going up on scene and in playing with other musicians.
In 1964, Bloomfield was discovered, thanks to its work in studio with Bob Dylan, by John H. Hammond, which made it sign for CBS. However, several recordings of 1964 were not published, the not knowing label how to promote a guitarist of white blues.
In 1965, joined the harmonicist Paul Butterfield, to form an rock group based on the sound of the urban electric blues of Chicago. They created sensation in the community blues, and made it possible the white public to discover a new facet of the blues, in particular through the East-West album. Intimidated by crushing the presence of Paul Butterfield, Michael Bloomfield left the group to form Electric Flag, in 1967, with the singer Nick Gravenites. Electric Flag was supposed to be based on the innovations of East-West, and to go beyond, in particular by adding an aspect Soul to it (with a copper section). The group left the album has Long Time Comin' in 1968. However, of the dissensions between the members, a short-term management and the abuse cocaine caused the early end of Electric Flag.
Michael Bloomfield also worked with Al Kooper, on the album Super Session, in 1968. This album, based on the talents of Michael Bloomfield and Stephen Stills, accepted excellent criticisms and became the album of Bloomfield more sold. The success of Super Session led to The Live Adventures off Mike Bloomfield & Al Kooper, an album live recorded in Fillmore West, in San Francisco, in 1968.
During years 1970, Michael Bloomfield recorded on several small labels (of which Takoma). He played with other groups in the neighborhoods of San Francisco, but its career was clearly behind him.
The February 15th 1981, Michael Bloomfield was found died in its own car in San Francisco, doubtless because of a heroin overdose.
It used guitars Fender (in particular Telecaster), but it is generally associated with the Gibson the Paul, who made it famous with Electric Flag and on Super Session.
He is regarded by much as the white guitarist most influential.
