Miguel Mateo Maldonado Cabrera (1695 - 1768) was a Mexican painter there of the ethnos group of the Zapotèques recognized at the time like one of the great painters of the viceroyalty of News-Spain. It founded, in 1753, the first academy of painting of Mexico, from which he was president until his death.
It was born in Antequera, today Oaxaca, then it is established with Mexico City in 1719. It is thought that he studied painting with the brothers Rodríguez Juárez, but it is also possible that it was with Jose de Ibarra.
Will pull up was the favorite painter of the archbishop of Mexico City and the Jésuites, which placed to him from many orders. Its style points out that of Murillo, but is also tinted of some French influences.
