Miguel Najdorf

Miguel Najdorf , born Moishe Mieczysław Najdorf the April 5th 1910 with Warsaw and dead the July 4th 1997 with Malaga, is a player of failures of Jewish origin Polish, which obtained nationality Argentine.

Biography

Beginnings

Mieczysław Najdorf followed initially the courses of David Przepiorka, then of Xavier Tartakover, to which it always referred like “ my Master ”.

At the beginning of its career in 1929, Najdorf beats Glücksberg in a famous match known as Immortal Polish the .

  • In 1930, it divides the 6edu championship of Warsaw, gained by Paulino Frydman.
  • In 1931, it finishes 2nd behind Frydman. In 1932, it is 9th equal . In 1933, it gains the “quadrangular” match of Warsaw.
  • In January 1934, it finishes 2nd, behind Rudolf Spielmann. During the summer 1934, it loses a match against Ored Karlin (+1 - 2 =1). The same year, it still gains the championship of Warsaw.
  • In 1935, it finishes 2nd equal with P. Frydman and H. Friedmann, behind Xavier Tartakover with the 3rd championship of Poland in Warsaw. After which, it gains a match against Tartakover with Toruń (+2 - 1 =2).
  • In 1936, it shares the 1st place with Lajos Steiner with the championship of Hungary.
  • In 1937, it takes the 4th place of the championship of Poland with Jurata. In 1937, it gains with Rogaška Slatina (Rohitsch-Sauerbrunn).
  • In 1938, He finishes 10th equal with Łódź.
  • In 1939, it is the 6th At Margate.

Najdorf played for the team of Poland at the time of three Olympiads of failures. In August 1935, it is 3rd chess-board at the time of the 6th Olympiad in Warsaw (+9 - 2 =6). In August 1936, he plays second chess-board at the time of the Olympiad (nonofficial) of Munich (+14 - 2 =4). In June/July 1937, it is also with the second chess-board at the time of the 7th Olympiad with Stockholm (+5 - 3 =7).

In September 1939, the bursting of the Second world war retains it with Buenos Aires, where it took part in the 8th Olympiad, representing the Poland with the second chess-board. Najdorf was a Polish Jew (just like two other members of the team, Tartakover and Frydman while the other members, Regedzinski, of German origin and Sulik, were not-Jews). He interpreted conrrectement what was occurring to Poland and decides to remain in Argentine. (Many players, Jews or not, made some in the same way, thus losing their family ties and personnel, but thus escaping the Shoah. Najdorf obtains cependnt brilliances results with the second chess-board with Buenos Aires (+12 -2 =4).

After the war

In 1950, it is named international Large-Master by FIDE.

In 1953, it took part in the tournament of the candidates of Zurich and finished there 7th on 15.

It was measured with Samuel Reshevsky in a match which was to designate the champion of failures of two Americas and lost.

It gave its name to an alternative of the sicilian Défense, the Sicilienne Najdorf. One of the most faithful practitioners of this defense was the American world champion, Bobby Fischer and it is also the favorite weapon of Garry Kasparov.
