Miguel Angel Blanco was a simple city council man (Popular party) of a small village, Ermua in Biscay (Basque Country). It was to marry one week after its catch as an hostage by the ETA in 1997. The Basque separatists had asked in exchange of its life that the Spanish authorities move the prisoners of the ETA of the prison of Madrid to the prisons being with the Basque Country. But the authorities did not yield to this blackmail and the members of ETA drew 2 balls in the head to him and left it for died in the forest. In spite of that, Miguel Angel was always alive. Unfortunately, he died a few hours later in a hospital.

This assassination gave place to a vast movement (more than one million people in the street) of demonstration against the violence of ETA, in Spain and in particular with the Basque Country.
