Miguelín

Miguel Mateo Salcedo known as “Miguelín” , born the March 19th 1939 with Abarán (Spain, province of Murcie), dead the July 21st 2003 with San Castling (Spain, Province of Cadiz), was a Spanish Matador.

Presentation

Bohemian, hétérodoxe, iconoclast and rebel are undoubtedly the words which qualify best “the Miguelín” and its style of toreo. It could toréer in the most vulgar way which is, and a few moments later, in a very traditional way. During the every years 1960, it was one of the principal rivals of “El Cordobés” which refused to make the paseo in its company: the two matadors clashed in a direct way only twice in 1964, with Jaén and Murcie. Twice, “Miguelín” left in triumph, “El Cordobés” under the bronca .

Its most known “feat of arms” goes back to May 1968: during a bullfight in Madrid, it, in costume-tie, had jumped in track to ridicule the dead loss toro that “El Cordobés” faced.

He interpreted also the role of the bullfighter in the Moment of the truth , film of Francesco Rosi (1965).

  • Beginnings in novillada with picadors: Algeciras the April 10th 1955 at the sides of Pepín Jiménez and Sergio Flora.
  • Beginnings with Madrid (Plaza of Vista Alegre): April 1st 1956.
  • Presentation in Madrid (Plaza of mow Were windy): March 31st 1957 at the sides of Fermín Murillo and Luis Segura. Novillos of the ganadería of Jose Matías Bernardos.
