Mig-21 Croatian

At the end of 1993 and at the beginning of 1994, approximately 40 Mig-21 fighter plans Bis/UM were bought in Ukraine by the Croatian government. They were dispatched in Poland or they were dismounted then conveyed in Croatia by trucks via the Slovakia and the Hungary. With this batch of planes, air-to-air missiles R-60 (AA-Cool and R 3R (AA-2-2)), of the shells of 23mm and the bombs of 250kg were also bought.

In 2002 and 2003:

  • 8 Mig-21bis (n°108, 110, 115, 116, 117, 120, 121 and 122),
  • 4 Mig-21UM bought in Poland (n°164, 165, 166 I 167),
were modernized in Romania at Aerostar.

101 . The captain Danijel Borovic deserted the 04.01.1992 from the base of Bihać- Željava and landed with Pula with his Mig-21 (n°17133/n°sery N2119). This plane was cut down the 24.06.1992 by the Serb forces with a missile (SA-14 Strela) its pilot Ante Radoš is deceased.

102 . Baptized the “Avenger of Dubrovnik”, the captain Ivica Ivandić deserted from the military airport of Ponikve- Užice (Serbia) and landed with Split the 5/15/1992 with the Mig-21 (n°17235/n°sery N2741). This plane in 1994, was repaints in camouflage green and maroon and reformed in 2004.

103 . Baptized the “Avenger of Vukovar”, the captain Ivan Selak deserted from the military airport of Ponikve- Užice (Serbia) and landed with Zagreb the 5/15/1992 with the Mig-21 (n°17167/n°sery N4051). This plane was cut down the 14.09.1993 by the Serb forces with a missile (SA-14 Strela) close to Vrginmost (Croatia), its pilot Miroslav Periš is deceased.

104 . Bought in Ukraine, lost following a collision with a line with high voltage the 21.04.1995 close to Gašinci, his pilot, the commander Zlatko Mejaški is deceased.

105 . Bought in Ukraine, reformed.

107 . Bought in Ukraine, reformed.

108 . Bought in Ukraine, modernized in Romania into 2002/2003, reformed.

109 . Bought in Ukraine, received its registration in 1996, the plane is crushed following a driving problem the 14.08.1996 close to Velika Gorica, its pilot Ivan Bosnar is deceased.

113 . Bought in Ukraine, during the Opération Storm the captain Ivica Ivandić hangs a tree and damages a wing, repaired with the parts of the 111. Reformed in 2004.

116 . Bought in Ukraine, reformed.

119 . Bought in Ukraine, cut down above Bosanska Gradiška the 02.05.1995 during the operation flash, its pilot the captain Rudolf Perešin is deceased.

121 . Bought in Ukraine, modernized in Romania into 2002/2003.

122 . Bought in Ukraine, modernized in Romania into 2002/2003.

123 . Bought in Ukraine, received its registration in 1996, reformed.

124 . Bought in Ukraine, received its registration in 1996, reformed.

On a total of 40 fighter plans Mig-21, 25 were assembled and the remainder was used as spare parts.
