Mieczysław Horszowski , born the June 23rd 1892 in Lemberg (current the Lviv in Ukraine), then in Austrian, and dead territory the May 22nd 1993 with Philadelphia (Pennsylvania), is a Pianiste Polish, naturalized American in 1948.

It receives its first piano lessons of his mother, a pupil of Charles Mikuli (itself a former student of Chopin). At the seven years age, he studies with Teodor Leszetycki with Vienna; Leszetycki had had as a professor the famous pedagog and former student of Beethoven, Carl Czerny. In 1901, it gives its first public concert to Warsaw by interpreting the Sonate for piano nº 1 of Beethoven then begins a career from Child prodigy in Europe and South America. In 1905, the Horszowski young person plays for Fauré and meets Saint-Saëns with Nice. It is fourteen years old, in this year 1906, when it makes its beginnings with the Carnegie Hall with New York then with London. The happy meetings multiply with that of the Leader Arturo Toscanini with Montevideo and especially of the Violoncelliste Pablo Casals with Milan where it gives a recital; the two musicians will become close friends and privileged associates. In 1911, Horszowski decides to withdraw circuit pianistic to devote itself to the study of the literature, philosophy and history of art with Paris.

Pablo Casals encourages it to join again with the scene and, at the conclusion of the First World War, Horszowski settles in Milan. At the time of the bursting of the Second world war, it leaves Europe for the United States and lives in New York. At the end of the war, it occurs in recital with like partners Pablo Casals, Alexander Schneider, Joseph Szigeti and the Quatuor Budapest. It frequently appears with the Festival of Prades and the Festival of Marlboro. In 1957, Horszowski gives to New York, at the time of a series in memorable concerts, the integral of works for piano alone of Beethoven and, in 1960, the integral of the sonatas for piano of Mozart. He is also a burning defender of the music of his time playing or creating works of Honegger, of Indy, Martinů, Stravinski, Szymanowski, Villa-Lobos.

Parallel to its career of concert performer, he teaches, as from 1952, with the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia, cash among his pupils Richard Goode, Anton Kuerti, Murray Perahia and Peter Serkin.

Continuous Horszowski to play until the ninety years age, with behind him the career which will have lasted ninety years, certainly longest in annals of the piano. After a last concert in Philadelphia, on October 31st, 1991, he dies in this city, on May 22nd, 1993 at the one hundred years age.
