The sun of Minuit is a phenomenon to which one can assist when one is in the areas Arctique or the Antarctic, beyond the polar circles, where the Sun can be visible during 24 consecutive hour S.

Taking into account the Slope of the axis of the Ground on the Plan of sound Orbit, during its annual revolution, all the areas of the Earth are not enlightened in the same way by the Sun. In be for example, the Sun lights permanently the North pole during 6 months. The situation reverses occurs with the South pole.

With the latitude of the Arctic Cercle (66°33' NR) one can observe the midnight sun starting from the Solstice of summer. During a few days or a few weeks the Sun never lies down with this latitude and is still with 30° or 40° of rise at midnight or 1:00 in the morning!

The town of Hammerfest in Norway (70°40' NR) presents a site privileged to admire it under good conditions. With the Northern Cape (Nordkapp, 71°10' NR), the midnight sun occurs between on May 13rd and on July 29th, in Bodo (67°17' NR) it occurs between on June 3rd and on July 8th.

The phenomenon reverses occurs in winter. To the north of the Circle Arctic, for one period centered around the solstice and located between on September 23rd and on March 21st and depend on the latitude, the Sun does not rise: the pole is plunged permanently in the shade of the Earth during all the winter season; it is the permanent night. With the pole-even, we attend one night which lasts 6 months with a kind of permanent twilight in March and in September.

The phenomenon is reversed in the Antarctic.
