General

According to the dynasty of the principal albums the career of the group, Midian marks off one important period at Cradle Filth. Let us note before this work one period approaching more true the black metal (decorated of a symphonic key evolving/moving constantly), then after, a series of albums going from a compilation, Bitter Continuations To Succubi, towards an album “live”, that is to say Live Bait For The Dead. The following albums quickly took a form different from the true sound of antan, forsaking the aspect black metal towards a music qualified by the members of the extreme group of metal.

Midian constitutes off the final opus of Cradle Filth and punctuates the end of the period “underground” of the group before it takes an international turning.

Each part explores a dark aspect of the life and death, constituting an ultimate digest of the messages conveyed by the group since, at that time, ten years. The topics treated in the preceding albums are taken again with a satanic key coming on the one hand work from the lyric writer and another of the clavierist. The symphonic additions of the preceding album, Cruelty and the Beast, marked the beginning towards a harmonious turn of the group, but was not yet at that time completely controlled. Before arriving at the orchestra of Damnation and has Day, the group passed by Midian, where the simple use of keyboards proved to be imposing.

Surrounded by one will have purely malefic, the insults towards Christianity multiply on several levels, drawing a number impressing of bonds with the values from the modern satanism. Drawing the inspiration of the literature of last and the darkest events that it could it, Daniel Davey composed the words which prove to be a height that it had never reached before. Such a rich language was seldom seen within the groups of extreme metal of this time.

By publishing this work in its kind, Cradle off Filth closed one time of their existence in a majestic way. After Midian, nothing is similar any more, but here is a new time which begins. Only time knows towards which direction the group will move.

Detail

The course of the group will not be the subject of this publication; it will be there rather question of the album within its precise framework among the whole of other work. Cradle off Filth carries out its works by basing the central set of themes of the albums autout of a precise point. The determination of this point gives the key particular to each album. The chief of the group, the singer and type-setter Daniel Davey, determines by the literary events a subject which will make the heart of each album. The musicians must thus play in this direction. From this point of view, Midian receives a quite particular mandate. In the whole of the career of the group, Midian is the last album of the phase underground, which marks an extreme phase of transition. In this direction, Midian is the opus before the beginning of the commercial turn of the group.

Tracks

  1. At the Spoil Midian

off

Fruit of the work of Martin “Foul” Powell, this part represents a progression towards the doors of the démoniaque city known under Midian name. As time passes, the general volume of the pìèce, only made up of keyboard and symphonic additions, increases with a burning passion which shows in a direction more than one desire to cross these doors. A call and the awakening of impulses invades the listener who is transported towards the second part where he discovers what this passion really conceals.

  1. Cthulhu Dawn

Awakening of the monster. Certain bonds are to be woven between the literature which impassions the lyric writer of the group and the significance of Cthulhu.
