The microtubes are small tubes provided with a cap to screw or with clipser. They are out of plastic, the Polypropylène, able to resist the high temperatures (Autoclavage, use in Thermocycleurs…), at the low temperatures (storage in a Freezer with -80°C, crushing with the Azote liquidates…) or with the Solvent S organics.

They exist in various capacities:

  • 2 ml
  • 1,5 ml
  • 0,5 ml
  • 0,2 ml (200 µl): tubes with PCR

They also exist various colors: blue, pink, green…

On the cap and the side of the tube, there are sites to register the references of the samples to the marker.

There exists small plastic portoirs especially designed to hold the microtubes, which generally do not have bases punts.

One buys the tubes in great quantities then that one aliquot in a sterile way (by putting on gloves) in old jam bottles, that one hermetically-sealed.

The smallest tubes (200 µl) can be bought in " barrettes" from 8 or 12, joined together free in and out by a small plastic bridge.

Use

If one is droitier, one generally holds the tube in the first fingers of the left hand. One makes use of the inch to open or close the cap, or of the right hand if it is a screw cap. One can thus make use of the right hand to carry out the pipettages with the automatic Pipette.

The microtubes are with single Usage. If they do not need to be preserved for stored a sample, they are thrown. It is too difficult to clean them to be able to be used again itself about it, without risking the Transcontaminations.

Manufacturers

The company Eppendorf gave its name like generic name for a microtube.
