Microsoft Exchange Server

Microsoft Exchange Server is a collaboratif software for electronic Mail server created by Microsoft, to compete with Lotus Notes/Domino server of IBM and more recently of the software under Linux such as Scalix or Zimbra. Microsoft Exchange is very much used in the large companies.

History

Exchange 4.0 constituted the foundations of the service of directory Active Directory of Microsoft with the appearance of the engine ESE on which this compatible directory LDAP is pressed. To the version 5.5 Exchange had its own directory. Since the version 2000 and the appearance of Active Directory (in 1999), Exchange does not have any more its own engine of directory and needs Active Directory. This great difference in operation between these versions explains complexities which can make spout out a migration between the higher version 5.5 and versions.
